Physical Description | Wyatt has the physique of a gymnast because he is one, or at least he used to be. He is lithe and sinewy, with tightly corded muscles and a firm six-pack, but by no means looks like a weight-lifter. His hair which straddles the border of being within regulation guidelines is the color of a wheat field on an Autumn afternoon , though during the summer months or if he is in the sun a lot, it lightens considerably. It has a deliberately mussed look that is still under control. His eyes are a clear crystalline blue of a North Pole glacier He is blessed, or cursed with fine, delicate features that his admirers would say is perpetually boyish and his detractors would describe as feminine. He would describe himself as the boy next door type. He moves with the easy grace of an athlete and almost any style of clothing looks good on him. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Wyatt’s upbringing was somewhat unusual. His family are gymnasts, who are still part of a troupe of fellow performers who travel the galaxy playing before crowds of all sizes. So, Wyatt grew up, literally in the spotlight. He enjoyed himself at the time and remains a social butterfly and an extrovert, but he doesn’t miss the time either. Gymnastics is now an avocation and a hobby, which he performs for fun and to stay in shape, at least when he has the time. His real love cultivated from a lifetime of travel is languages (He is fluent in Klingon, Romulan, and Vulcan and he has a conversational level understanding of half a dozen other languages or dialects. He is also good at imitating accents. While he is more of an intuitive rather than an analytical thinker, necessity while serving on ships prior to joining Starfleet as well as his experience and training since the Academy have helped mold him into being more technically oriented and a more than competent operations officer. With his love for languages, and just plain old talking and listening, communications seemed a natural fit. Another asset that he brings to the table is his connections in high, and sometimes low places and his ability to scrounge needed and desired goods and services. While he is grateful for and still loves his family he is estranged from them and they are barely on speaking terms. The primary reason for this, especially with his father, is he is not following in the family trade. He is following his own path. Another reason for the estrangement is his father caught him with another boy, in what would have been his Junior year in a Terran High School. It was not so much the gender of the one he was attracted to, rather it was that in the mind of his father, the other boy didn’t measure up, wasn’t in the same class figuratively, or literally as Wyatt, so Hamilton, Wyatt’s father throw Keval, the Andorian boy out of the house and forbade any contact between the two. That event was the catalyst that caused Wyatt to start to examine his life. While he is more than comfortable interacting in groups or with individuals, he sometimes struggles in close, meaningful relationships. He would consider himself to be demisexual if forced to put a label on his orientation. He’s drawn more towards relationships and emotional intimacy with any gender and not so much the physical kind. He’s not the type to have a one-night stand. There has to be some emotional connection. Wyatt tends to leap before he thinks and fix his mistakes along the way rather than sit idly by and wait for things to happen, or come up with contingency plans and escape clauses. He’s a bit of a risk taker, diving right into the middle of a situation, often becoming the eye of the hurricane. He has his own moral compass, which most. He has respect for the chain of command and generally follows the rules and obeys orders, but he do so blindly. He has sometimes spoken up at the wrong time, but is making an effort to be more circumspect. He has a unique ability to notice the smallest changes. Facial expression, body language, a new clothing style, etc. He doesn’t hesitate to call those things out, or if the shift in facial expression or body language causes him to think a person is lying, he won’t hesitate to let them know, unless he’s trying to be deceptive as well and get them to expose more things. He is full of passion and energy. He is gregarious, something of a social butterfly, comfortable in almost any social situation. He is flirtatious with both genders, but it is mostly just chatter that he uses to disarm those around him, or help him accomplish his goals. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths Bold – He is full of life and energy. There is no greater joy for him than pushing boundaries and discovering and using new things and ideas. Rational and Practical – He loves knowledge and philosophy, but not for their own sake. What’s fun for him is finding ideas that are actionable and drilling into the details so he can put them to use. If a discussion is completely arbitrary, there are better uses for his time. Original – Combining his boldness and practicality, He loves to experiment with new ideas and solutions. He puts things together in ways no one else would think to. Perceptive – This originality is helped by Wyatt’s ability to notice when things change – and when they need to change! Small shifts in habits and appearances stick out to him, and he uses these observations to help create connections with others. Direct – This perceptive skill isn’t used for mind games – He prefers to communicate clearly, with direct and factual questions and answers. Things are what they are. Sociable – All these qualities pull together to make him a natural group leader. This isn’t something that he actively seeks – he just has a knack for making excellent use of social interactions and networking opportunities. He has virtually no fear of heights. Leap from one third-story roof to another? No problem. Walk that tightrope across the chasm, just make sure the rope is secure. Weakness Impatient – He moves at his own pace to keep himself excited. Slowing down because someone else “doesn’t get it” or having to stay focused on a single detail for too long is extremely challenging for him. Risk-prone – This impatience can lead him to push into uncharted territory without thinking of the long-term consequences. He sometimes intentionally combats boredom with extra risk. Unstructured – He sees an opportunity – to fix a problem, to advance, to have fun – and seize the moment, often ignoring rules and social expectations in the process. This may get things done, but it can create unexpected social fallout. May Miss the Bigger Picture – Living in the moment can cause him to miss the forest for the trees. He loves to solve problems here and now, perhaps too much. All parts of a project can be perfect, but the project will still fail if those parts do not fit together. Defiant – He won’t be boxed in. Repetition, hard line rules, sitting quietly while he is lectured at – this isn’t how he lives his life. He is action-oriented and hands-on. Entry-level work can be so tedious that it’s intolerable, requiring extraordinary effort from him to stay focused long enough to get to freer positions. Heights may hold no fear for him, but tightly confined spaces, especially if he is alone, cause fear, and anxiety and if it’s really tight or he’s in that position for a while, it can cause him to panic. |
|
Ambitions | On a professional level, while he would consider a command of his own someday, that’s not his main goal, at least for the moment. He would like to rise in the ranks, be the best officer he can be, and someday teach and pass on the knowledge he has gleaned. On a personal level, he would like to find the right person to settle down with, though he’s not rushing into anything anytime soon. |
|
Hobbies & Interests | While he is no longer actively involved in gymnastics he still finds time to practice once or twice a week. It's one of the ways he works out. He is also an avid swimmer and enjoys more outdoor activities. He does have a bit of a creative steak as well and has written six romance novels about the three members of the Ryder family and their varying romantic adventures. None of them have been published yet, or even sent out for publication, but he is considering sending some out to be considered. Another more sedentary activity is the study of anthropology. The more he studied languages, the more he wanted to understand the culture languages came from. His only other notable hobby, which can sometimes filter in into his professional, is puzzles and ciphers |

LCARS Wherabout Record | Wyatt had been on Triton, a new ship headed to the Delta Quadrant to deal with a series of pirate attacks, for only six months. After returning from an anthropology symposium, his Captain's Yacht he was traveling on veered off course. Officially, he is listed as missing in action, but the scuttlebutt is that he is presumed KIA |
Personal History | The Spencer family has been part of a troupe of performers called The Travelers for three generations The group is made up of twenty acts from comedians, to drama performances to gymnasts like the Spencers. Wyatt was the second child born to Hamilton and Nicole, arriving on November 17, 2364 three years after Alex, the oldest There were three more siblings to follow, Naomi in 2367 and the twins Wanda and Kyle in 2369. They usually filled the venues where they played, though those venues were not always that large, or in prime locations. Some of them were in very sketchy areas indeed. Most audiences had favorable things to say about them. Some were gushing others more circumspect. They became fairly well known in the Gamma Quadrant and it got to the point that, as the saying goes, their reputation preceded them. This was not always a good thing however. When it dealt with what happened on stage it was a good thing almost always. When it came to what happened off stage, that was a different story. Sometimes it was rumored that things went missing after they left, or some folks got swindled. Some who knew Terran history likened them to gypsies of twentieth and twenty-first century Earth. Because of his innocent, and some would say attractive appearance, from his early teen years on, Wyatt was tasked with smoothing things out with their audiences and in some cases, going ahead of them to prepare the way. He wasn't the perfect front man, given his age, but his skills in that area, as well as his skills as a gymnast and acrobat grew. That was also the time that he found he had an ear for and love of languages. Not only did he pick up the various tongues and dialects of the diverse species that were part of the Travelers, but even that of some of the various groups they performed before. He enjoyed being in the spotlight at first, but as he grew older and more aware he began to truly understand that he had feet of clay and there was more to life than how one performs, and while he'd become adept at spinning tales, that was not always a good thing. Though society has become more egalitarian that did not stop Hamilton from seeking for both wealth and power, or at least fame. The rest of the family, willing or not were being pulled along. It also did not stop him from looking down at others, which Wyatt also found troubling. That was the beginning of Wyatt questioning everything about his life and his future. Among the things he questioned were his sexuality and more fundamentally, his place in society. What it meant to be Wyatt Spencer. It became more and more difficult to deal with the fact that he didn't have a lot of power and because he was just a teenager he had no real means of leaving. He escaped at first by using his rather vivid imagination He started writing stories. At first, the topics varied widely and the quality was middling at best. But, like with his gymnastics or learning the languages he loves so much, practice makes perfect, or at least it made him better. Life, at least for a while, imitated art and he fell in love with another gymnast Lucas Cain. Their relationship began as a friendship that blossomed into a romance that soon turned physical They kept things on the sly because the families were rivals. Like most such teen relationships, their secret eventually came out. When it did, both fathers moved to end the affair. The objection was not that both teens involved were boys, the objection was that the families were rivals. Hamilton's response was especially cruel and condescending. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. widening the separation between Wyatt and his family to an insurmountable distance. Wyatt was seventeen when this happened. He and Lucas felt they were old enough to make their own decisions and live their own lives. So, despite their parents' objection they booked passage on a merchant vessel named the Defiant, where they would work to earn their way. Wyatt thought things would be, if not perfect, better. After all, he wasn't going to be under his father's thumb anymore and he and Lucas could do what they wanted, when they wanted. At first, he was right, things went relatively smooth. Wyatt's primary job was to act as the ship's communication officer. His gift for languages was the main reason for putting him there. There were even times when the boys were allowed to show of their acrobatic skills and perform for audiences when the ship stopped at a port. Then things began to change. Wyatt was given additional duties and was charged with helping to keep the ship's systems running. This was a challenge for him, especially at first, because he was more intuitive than analytical. But through lots of repetition, he eventually got pretty good at it despite his weaknesses. To this day, Wyatt still process things differently than most other operations officers, but this usually doesn't work to his disadvantage. Instead, he has been cited more than once for his outside the container field thinking. If that had been the only change, things would have continued in the same direction and he and Lucas would have stayed on the ship (Lucas was the Defiant's medic) and lived happily ever after, just like in the romance novels Wyatt was writing on the side. Wyatt was the first to notice the dynamics among the crew were "off", it was easy for him to notice such things. It was Lucas though who discovered they were being shortchanged on their wages and that the merchant ship's cargo wasn't always legal. They were on a smuggler's ship. A ship that not only smuggled goods, but also people and that trafficked in information. Given his mindset at the time, he wasn't bothered by the ship's missions. He wasn't Starfleet, so he had no axe to grind, and no real harm was being done as far as he, or Lucas was concerned. His main concern was two-fold. They hadn't been let in on the secret and they were not profiting from it. After a conversation with the Captain, new arrangements were made and once more, Wyatt became the "face" of the ship. When he was with the Travelers, he was helping to diffuse rumors that for the most part were false. Now he was helping to cover up things that were, at least technically, criminal. Both he and the Defiant prospered and profited and things were going well. Then, just after he turned twenty the ship was visiting a rough and tumble planet near the Neutral Zone. Darius IV had a reputation for being a haven for cutthroats and ne'er do wells. Lucas disappeared never to be heard from again. Their relationship had gotten a little rocky, but they were working things out. So Wyatt was and is confident that Lucas did not leave voluntarily. He began to suspect that whoever did something to Lucas wasn't from Darius IV, though pretty much the whole planet could have been considered suspects, but rather whoever was responsible was much closer. On the ship he called home. Wyatt feigned naivety covering it up with a heartbreak that was very real. He began to snoop around and discovered that some of the shipments the Defiant had started to carry were far more dangerous than latnium and missing shipments of dilithium crystals. The closer he got to figuring it out, the more danger he felt he was in. He never did discover the exact nature of it, and he didn't want the discovery to end his life. The next time the Defiant stopped at some backwater port, Wyatt made his escape, diapering into the city. He removed the transponder that had been implanted in him, he still has the scar. The Defiant left without him, or at least they made it look like they had, but Wyatt wasn't taking any chances. After month or so of hiding and moving from one location another, constantly looking over his shoulder, he caught a freighter and went back to the last place he thought the Defiant would look. Darius IV. He lived there for three years. He did some odd jobs, updating some of the local merchants facilities, but his primary source of income was running confidence games. He felt little to no guilt about it, he was just using his naturally silver tongue and his training and experience. And, he only targeted those who were greedy and underhanded. People he felt deserved it. During his time on the planet he began to study anthropology to better understand the cultures behind the languages and just different cultures in general. Until one night, when the USS Achilles, a Starfleet vessel came to the planet for some shore leave. Wyatt tied to con the first officer, Simon Fletcher. He didn't know the mark was Starfleet he wasn't wearing a uniform. Simon was brighter than most of the people Wyatt targeted and he certainly wasn't a bad man or greedy. Simon, in essence, caught Wyatt in the act. He held him a phaser point, undecided whether he should turn Wyatt into the local authorities or exactly what to do with him. The more they talked, the more Simon thought there was good in Wyatt. That he may have been an opportunist, and a talented one, but he wasn't evil. He was redeemable. Eventually the phase was put down and Wyatt was told he was free to go, that Simon wouldn't say anything, or Wyatt could do something with his life that was meaningful and would help people Wyatt took him up on his offer and entered the Academy at the ripe age of 23. Wyatt struggled with the structure and regimentation at the Academy. he wasn't use to following orders He was reprimanded more than once and could have papered his room with demerits. There were times it looked like he would wash out. But his professors and administration saw his potential and raw skills and stayed with him. Their work, and his paid off. He graduated nowhere near the top of his class. But graduate he did and most importantly he absorbed the material. One of the new skills he learned while at the academy was codes and ciphers. He had a similar knack for those that he does for languages. It is an easy fit for him. While there he also continued to explore anthropology. His first assignment was on the USS Reliant a Galaxy class ship. He wasn't the oldest Ensign on board at 27, but he was pretty close. Over the next seven years he became an accomplished officer who often filled duo positions given his skills at both operations and communication. He rose to the rank of Lt. (jg) and his latest assignment before being recruited to they Herodotus was the Triton an Excelsior class ship where he was going to one of two Operations officers with little chance to use his linguistics or communication skills skills. So, when he attend a linguistics symposium, his recruitment was easy |
